My husband loves smoothies. Not just for breakfast, but for any time of day, really.
And I'm ok with that.
This is not to say that he replaces all meals with smoothies. But for days that are a little more hectic than usual, I think they are great. And packed full of nutrients!!
We pretty much have a smoothie every morning with breakfast, which is great, because we get a couple of servings of fruit and a serving of vegetables in one shot.
Here is what we typically put in our breakfast smoothie:
- A cup of frozen blueberries/strawberry pieces from Costco
- About a cup of baby spinach
- A scoop of protein powder (sometimes)
- About a tablespoon of ground flax
- A couple of spoonfuls of plain Greek yogurt
I am also thinking about making some smoothie packs for the freezer like the ones I saw on The Tidy Nest. Ken's days are really busy, and he has a terrible habit of skipping meals. All of a sudden, the work day is done and he arrives home completely famished.
That's where the smoothie packs would come in.
Not only would they be super easy for him to just throw in the blender when he comes home before supper is ready, but he could also take them with him to work. He has a little freezer in his office, so with a little blender or Magic Bullet it would be easy for him to whip one up. He is also a lot more likely to bring a smoothie to a meeting or a lecture than he is to bring a sandwich or casserole. Yay for fewer skipped meals!!
